Q1: What is an American Quarter Horse?
The American Quarter Horse is a breed of medium sized horse which originated in the USA. It traces back to the original Spanish horses mixed with English Thoroughbred and Irish Hobbies. This stocky horse with great bursts of speed was found to be ideal for working cattle ( having cow-savvy).  These horse were and still are raced over short distances up to 1/4 mile, hence the name Quarter Running Horse and eventually this became the American Quarter Horse. The registry for these horses is held at the AQHA Headquarters in Amarillo, Texas and it is the largest breed registry in the world having over 5 million horses registered worldwide.Read more...
Q2: What is an Appaloosa?
The Appaloosa is a breed of horse of medium size which displays a spotted coat pattern. There are many variation to this coat pattern.  These horses trace back to a herd of horses bred by the Nez Perce Indians in the north west of the US.  The Nez Perce were based in an area known as the Palouse Valley and this is where the name originated from.  These horses are registered with the Appaloosa Horse Club, Moscow, Idaho.
