What our Graduates Say...

Jens Skjerdal

Dear Jackie and Gerry Thank you so much for the successful stay I had at Five Oaks Ranch.I also thank you for your hospitality - I was received as a friend rather than a tourist passing through. I have been trail riding in Northern Ireland on a previous occasion - but this trip was the best one I ever had on a horse back here.

Being allowed to participate in the celebration of "Break the Border" was also a great experience for me as a scandinavian - with a lot of horses, riders and audience in western-style, who participated in trial and party.Tasty barbeque and dancing at great country music was a perfect ending to a nice evening. It was an old dream come through when I for the first time rode appaloosa-, quarter-, and curillo-horses western style in beautiful surroundings. The long trails in changing scenery and weather, through exuberant forests, alongside waters and over open land I will never forget. Neither will I forget Gerry when we galloped side by side, mile after mile, from Smuglers Creek to Salomon Inn - on horses who never seemed to be tired. It was a great honor getting to ride your Appaloosa-stallion and a pleasure getting to know horses like Major and Brave Cicco. After having seen your stallions, breeding-mares and young horses, you have good reason to be proud of your breeding. The stay at Saimer House with it’s excellent breakfast in luxurious surroundings was a great experience by itself. Mixed with a nice old city like Ballyshannon close to Five Oaks - this can get no better!! Thank you again for a terrific experience. ,

Since our first visit in 1998 we have been happy to return every year to Five Oaks Ranch for the excellent horses and Jackie and Gerry´s great hospitality. Riding western-style with it’ s easy pace up through the woods have been one of our best experience ever during our many years of traveling. The saloon with its great ’cowboy-gadgets’ is perfect to relax in after the trail, and gives a genuine western feeling. We will return for more

People are often quick to criticize and slow to praise so I just want to say how much Carol and I enjoyed our riding- and company ! There is a very warm friendly feel to your place and I do like your method of working ’with’ your horses not dominating or breaking their spirit. I wish more people had your approach but I think it is slowly getting through especially with the younger generation.

Hello Gerry and Co.! Just to say we had a great time on Friday, everybody was really friendly and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We found The Salmon Inn and had a great dinner there, and then we spent too much money in Donegal town on Saturday morning! We’ll definitely be back!
